Get College Data into Google Sheets

I have a high school senior and was recently helping him put together a spreadsheet of prospective colleges. We wanted them in a spreadsheet so that we could sort and filter them, add our own notes, and share the sheet with others. After manually copy and pasting 1 college's details from Niche.com into a Google Sheet, I thought to myself:

This sucks
I have a tool that can make this easier!

So I made an Agent to capture the relevant data from any Niche college page and use AI to parse it into the appropriate columns in my spreadsheet. I thought this might be useful to other high school seniors (and their parents!) so I'm making it available to everyone. If you know anyone who might find it useful, please share it!

NOTE that this is AI, so you should always double-check the data!

Installation Instructions

Watch the video or follow the instructions below.

Install the Ask Steve Chrome extension and create an account.
Make a copy of the Ask Steve Colleges Google Sheet.
With the copied spreadsheet open to the Colleges sheet, click on the purple lightning bolt tab in the lower right of the window to open the Ask Steve sidepanel.
Click on Agents up top and then the purple NEW button. Press YES to auto-create an Agent for your sheet. You will be prompted to connect your Google Sheets account, so do so.
When that's done, press the NEW button again. Press YES again and this time you'll be asked to give Ask Steve access to this spreadsheet. Pick it from the list and your Agent will be created.
Now go to a college page on Niche.com (like this one) and press the button in the lower right with the Google Sheets icon.

Congratulations! Your Agent has written data from this college into your Google Sheet. Now you can do this on any college page!

Note that only the visible grades are copied over. So click on View Full Report Card on the Niche page before you press the button to capture all of them. Otherwise it will either leave them empty, mark them as unavailable, or just make sh*t up.
You can add your own columns, reorder columns and delete or hide any columns you don't care about. If you rename a column, it won't update unless you also update the Agent instructions.

Chat with your Google Sheet

With Ask Steve you can Chat with or run Agents on any Google Sheet, including your college sheet! Just click the purple lightning bolt tab to open up the Ask Steve sidepanel, make sure Chat with this Tab is selected at the bottom, and then ask any questions that you want!

Compare Schools

You can chat with multiple tabs at once, which is useful when you want to have multiple school pages open (from Niche.com or any other site) and ask questions across all of them. Just click the purple lightning bolt tab to open up the Ask Steve sidepanel, make sure either Chat with this Tab Group or Chat with All Tabs in Window is selected at the bottom, and then ask any questions that you want!
